Moses was old and nearing the time of his death. He wasn’t going to be allowed to go into the land that God was going to give them. He had rebelled against God’s Word; he didn’t show the people that God’s Word was holy and absolute! So God punished him. Moses could see the land, but would not be living it. A leader was necessary to guide the people into the land. God chose Joshua to become Moses’ successor.
