Jacob wasn’t chosen because of anything he did. Jacob was known as a trickster, a cheater. But God didn’t choose Jacob because of anything special he did; it was God’s plan all along! And God had a very special name for His Chosen people.
And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; no longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name.”
